Professional Experience and Responsibilities
Rafael Bustillo serves as BBVA USA’s chief operating officer and is responsible for the bank's Commercial Banking, Commercial Real Estate, Wealth Management and the Broker/Dealer Group. Bustillo is a member of the BBVA USA Management Committee and reports directly to U.S. President and CEO Javier Rodríguez Soler.

Bustillo has been with BBVA USA since 1987, leading Commercial Banking since 2009. Prior to that, he was Commercial Banking’s Denver Market President and Western Region Executive for Arizona, California, Colorado and New Mexico. He was also the bank's Gainesville Market President and Regional Executive for Northeast Florida and Southeast Alabama Community Markets, and Commercial and Private Banking Manager in Huntsville, Ala.

Professional and Community ActivitiesActive in the community in all of the markets where he has served, Bustillo is a past member of many boards, including United Way, Boys and Girls Club, the Houston Zoo, Junior Achievement and the American Heart Association, where he was president. During his tenure in Colorado, he served on the board of directors and the executive committees of the Metro Denver Chamber of Commerce and Metro Denver Economic Development Committee. Additionally, he served on the board of directors for the Colorado Bankers Association and is a former board member of the Consumer Bankers Association. He currently serves on the board of the Texas Mezzanine Fund and is an active member of the Campaign Cabinet for Opportunity Houston 2.0 and the Financial Services Roundtable.

Bustillo earned a bachelor’s in International Trade and Finance from Louisiana State University, and is a graduate of the Louisiana State University Graduate School of Banking.
