Professional Experience and Responsibilities
Javier Hernández serves as chief risk officer for BBVA USA. He is responsible for the development and implementation of the enterprise risk management program and its integration in the day-to-day management of BBVA’s operations in the U.S.

Hernández is a member of the BBVA USA Management Committee, the BBVA USA Operations Committee and the BBVA’s Global Risk Management Committee. He reports to U.S. President and CEO Javier Rodríguez Soler, and to BBVA Chief Risk Officer Rafael Salinas.

After 12 years in various banking roles at Bank of Spain and Banco Santander, Hernández joined BBVA in 1999. He has been responsible for enterprise risk management and Basel II implementation for BBVA worldwide, and also participated in the development of the BBVA value-based management model.

Education
Hernández earned an undergraduate degree in economics from Universidad Complutense de Madrid, and a master’s degree in financial markets at Universidad Autónoma de Madrid.
