Professional Experience and Responsibilities
B. Shane Clanton serves as general counsel for BBVA USA and the Chief Legal Officer for BBVA’s U.S. operations. He is responsible for providing general legal advice to all areas of the company, including regulatory and corporate governance matters, and providing oversight for all U.S. legal matters for other BBVA Group entities in the U.S.
A member of the BBVA U.S. Operations Committee and the BBVA USA Management Committee, Clanton reports directly to U.S. President and CEO Javier Rodríguez Soler.
Clanton joined BBVA in 1998 as a senior corporate counsel. He became associate general counsel in 2002 and deputy general counsel in 2008. Clanton began his legal career at Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough, a Southeastern regional law firm in Atlanta, where he concentrated on various types of commercial litigation.
Professional and Community Activities
Clanton is a member of the Alabama State Bar and the State Bar of Georgia, and the American Bar Association. Clanton serves on the Board of Trustees of the Institute of International Bankers and is a former board member of the Consumer Bankers Association.
Clanton graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in economics and business administration from Milligan College in Tennessee and earned a J.D. with distinction from Emory University Law School.
