Professional Experience and Responsibilities
William C. “Bill” Helms is the vice chairman of the board of directors for BBVA in the U.S., where he is active in business development and in supporting the bank’s growth as directed by executive management. He also oversees BBVA USA’s national and local advisory boards and is involved in its government relations efforts.

Previously the executive officer and head of Wealth Management, Helms was responsible for the strategy and growth of private banking, asset management, international wealth management, broker-dealer activities and registered investment advisors.

Before joining BBVA USA in 2003, Helms spent 17 years with Bank of America in a number of progressively responsible positions, culminating as co-president of Bank of America’s private bank. He also spent 11 years at JPMorgan Chase, first as a credit analyst and ultimately as vice president of the corporate division.

Professional and Community Activities
Helms serves on the Chancellor’s Council for the University of Texas System and as an advisory director for the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas. He also serves on the board for the McGovern Museum of Health and Medical Science, and recently served on the boards of the Greater Houston Partnership, the Houston Grand Opera and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.

Helms earned a bachelor’s in business administration from the University of Texas at Austin.
